  • Do I need to be an experienced rider?
No, we invite riders of all abilities to join the team! Riders are encouraged to learn new skills regardless of what their current riding level is. We are committed to providing an encouraging and positive experience for each and every rider. Our RideLogic trained coaches have been trained by professional riders to ensure the skills that are taught a relevant, safe, rewarding, and FUN! • What kind of equipment is needed?
Mountain biking is a sport, like many others, that requires a certain minimum level of equipment to maintain a safe environment for our youth. Big box store bikes, aka Wal-Mart and Target in general, are not acceptable for the riding that we participate in. Most big box stores' Mountain Bikes' have a sticker on them that states "Not for off-road use." The front suspension or "fork" is inadequate, and the rear" shock" doesn't provide any functionality to the ride and safety. We highly recommend bikes from your neighborhood bike shop - a specialty product that needs to be sized, assembled correctly, and professionally serviced. At a minimum, bikes must have functional front and rear brakes, bar end plugs, stem cap, and tires no narrower than 1.75". NEYC strives to make everyone feel welcome and can assist with getting a proper bike to use for one season. The league has a loaner fleet that is available to any in financial need. If you have questions about the suitability of the bike you plan to use for the season, contact your head coach BEFORE registering, there are NO REFUNDS. You can contact us by using the "Put Me On Your List" form on the bottom of the www.gsmtb.com main page.
  • When is race season?
The race season typically starts in late April and runs through mid-June. The race series will consist of (6) races throughout New England. For the most up to date info about races, please visit the official NEYC website. www.neyouthcycling.com Team practices will occur well before the April race season (weather permitting). Practices will take place at various locations throughout the Berkshires. We try to practice at least twice per week....when mother nature allows. Information will be sent to registered families via email and the BAND app.
  • How is information communicated to the team?
Once registered, NEYC does an awesome job on sending emails to the league participants about important news. For our team, we use the BAND App to send out newsletters, important dates, and any updates about practices.
